BEDFORD - With the completion of a successful campaign by Bedford Regional Medical Center, United Way Lawrence County has reached 80 percent of its $400,000 goal.

The gift of $5,725 from BRMC brought the total to $321,520 for the United Way "a community that cares" campaign.

"Our 15 member agencies will be happy to hear this," said Patty Boone, executive director of United Way. "Our campaign volunteers have worked very hard to make this a successful campaign. We're glad to see that money coming in, it shows that the people of Lawrence County care about each other and the community."

Brad Dykes, BRMC CEO said, "We are very pleased with the way the campaign has gone, it is well above our goal."

To celebrate the successful campaign, Dykes, a talented musician, will dress in a Santa suit and play holiday music on his saxophone for the employees on Dec. 10, during the noon hour. He will be accompanied on keyboards by another local talent, Chuck Buttz.

"This is to honor the challenge that I agreed to do if we reached our goal," Dykes said. "I have played with Buttz before, he is very talented on several instruments."

"We are very grateful to the employees of BRMC for their support," said executive coordinator for United Way Beth Nagle.

In other campaign news, Michelle Super, executive assistant to the CEO at Dunn Memorial Hospital, said their campaign is ongoing until the end of the year.

"We have had some raffles and several other activities to raise funds," Super said. "Some of the activities are open to the public and they are welcome to come and check us out. We don't have a money total right now, but we hope to have a progress report on Tuesday."
